The Get Data Out programme routinely publishes cancer statistics produced by NHS D (previously PHE) in a consistent table, called the Get Data Out (GDO) table. This table collects patients into groups with common characteristics, and then publishes information such as incidence, treatment rates, survival and Routes to Diagnosis for these groups.

This document sets out the definitions of the cohort and groups for Get Data Out tables for the 2021 release of data on bone cancer between 2013 and 2019.

Bone cancer cohort

The cohort of bone cancers used by Get Data Out is defined by ICD-10 site as all tumours coded to C40 and C41.

This cohort differs from the subgroup of “bone sarcoma” within the Get Data Out Sarcoma cohort in that this group of Bone cancer cases covers all morphological subtypes of bone cancer, including non-sarcomas and tumours with non-specific morphology.

Further, unlike the “bone sarcoma” group, this cohort does not include tumours with bone sarcoma morphology found at other topographical sites.

This group is not split any further, annual figures only will be produced for this group.
